BBC Sports personality of the year: the alternative vote!

Much controversy surrounds the BBC Sports personality of the year this year:
unbalanced representation of sports
no women in the line-up
no Para-athletes in the line-up
to name just a few of the issues that people have raised. Chrissie Wellington, four time Ironman triathlon world champions and one of a number of female world champions that were overlooked said “They have already invited me to BBC sports personality of the year but I’m not going to go. I would like it to create a snowball effect because that would mean a message would be sent to them.” Chrissie Wellington says this is not about her being missed out but moer about the wider issue of women in sport.

Along with Wellington, swimmers Rebecca Adlington and Keri-Anne Payne, triathlete Helen Jenkins, taekwondo fighter Sarah Stevenson and the rowing duo of Katharine Grainger and Anna Watkins were also snubbed. Equally, Andy Murray, who completes another season without winning a major, does get on the list.

I saw in the news today that NUTS the men’s magazine is one that gets to vote, how on earth do they choose who votes? It seems a little bit odd!

So we decided to put it to the public vote. Who do YOU think should be on the short list for BBC Sports personality of the year? We want you to post your answers:

Name: one person you think should be shortlisted, and why

We will let this run for a bit, then collate the top nominations and put it to the vote, lets see who the Ryding2Health readers think should REALLY by BBC Sports personality of the year!
