Can the Injured Alistair Brownlee still take Olympic Gold?

Lots of talk surrounds Alistair Brownlee at the moment. With an Achilles injury to nurse, only months away from probably the only home Olympics in his lifetime, Brownlee needs to make sure that he will be back to his high class form, the one that won him the World and European Triathlon champion titles.

Can he do it? That's the question on everyone's lips at the moment. History says he can, and so does Alistair.

His Achilles tear was reported back in February, and everyone thought that his Olympic dreams were dashed. But, look at the history. In February 2010 Alistair Brownlee was in the news because a stress fracture was putting his Triathlon series title hopes at risk. Although Alistair couldn't take the world title that year, due to his absence from many of the series races (which athletes must race and consistently produce high class performances across the series to collect the points to take the title) he was fighting fit for the grand final, which he won in spectacular style off a sprint finish.

The gauntlet was set. As Alistair will admit, his biggest threat will be his brother Jonathan. But Alistair Brownlee is an intelligent athlete. Should we be concerned that he is not defending his european title? No, because he knows what he needs to do. In his words 'I'm not actually concerned about the racing, I'm concerned about getting the Achilles ready and getting a good block of training in, that's the important thing'

He only has one race to worry about, not a whole series, like he would have for the World title, hes done it before, in a similar time frame.

Will he join Helen Jenkins in collecting an Olympic Gold in London? I think so!
